The Effects of Warm Drinks on Your Oral Health

thedentalroom the effects of warm drinks on your oral health

As the weather gets colder, we want to stay warmer. Often times, we find ourselves consuming hot beverages such as tea, coffee and hot chocolate as a result. However, these hot beverages can create issues for your teeth and oral health!

These drinks are well known for causing stains to teeth, especially over long periods of time. Coffee stains in particular, can be resistant to brushing your teeth. Herbal teas are less likely to have discolouring effects, while black tea is more likely. Coffee by itself is found to cause no harm in terms of gum disease, in fact it helps protect your teeth due to the antioxidants it contains. But, once sugar is added to the mix, it can be detrimental by causing tooth decay.

You can minimize damage to your teeth by using a straw while drinking coffee or tea. You’ll also want to drink water after consuming coffee or tea to help wash away leftover particles that could potentially stain your teeth.

At The Dental Room, we offer various cosmetic dental services, including professional teeth whitening to help you keep your teeth beautifully white! Contact our dental clinic in downtown Calgary for your cosmetic dental consultation.
